Frequently Asked Questions

  • Although we offer day rates (only for the full length of the retreat), we feel you would be missing out on the camaraderie and relaxation that contribute to your creativity. Additionally, you would miss the nightly dinner and the open studio time, which is available 24/7 during the retreat. The retreat is designed and envisioned for all participants to be on-site for its entirety.

  • Hartford/Springfield in Windsor Locks, CT.

  • Car rental or driving. There is adequate parking on site. For driving directions, the retreat address is 2195 Main Street, Glastonbury, CT 06033.

    Our property is located a quick 5-10 minute drive from the Hartford, CT Train Station. Call Amtrak toll-free at 1-800-872-7245 or visit the Amtrak website.

    You will need to switch trains in New Haven to continue to Hartford.

  • Yes! Therapeutic massage and Reiki are available at the retreat center. Appointments are made and charged separately. (The massage is FANTASTIC.)

  • The best way to see what is around you is to open your cell phone map (Google Maps is best). Enlarge the map until places of interest begin to appear. Or, just ask me—I know just about everything in Connecticut or can find it for you quickly!

  • There is a place on the PayPal payment page where you can send a note to the seller. Use that or email us at the time of registration to indicate with whom you wish to share a room. Both registrations must be made within 24 hours of each other.

  • Due to the limited number of rooms and their configurations, roommates will be assigned by the retreat organizer. You can note your preferences on the registration form.

  • You will receive an email confirmation and, as the date gets closer, more emails full of info and goodies.

    Here is the payment schedule:

    A $450 deposit is due at the time of registration.
    The remaining balance is due 30 days before your retreat start date.

  • Yes. See Fees for more information.

  • Weather in Connecticut can vary this time of year, ranging from cold to hot and humid. Layers are best. Comfortable shoes are recommended, especially for hiking and river walks.

    Our classroom is either part of the main building or just a few steps away. Bring an umbrella and/or a hooded rain jacket to stay dry in case of rain. For sleeping, consider warm socks, pajamas, and/or sweatpants, which allow for the option to remove covers if you get too warm. Our property is insulated and equipped with central heating and air conditioning.

  • Depending on the guest artist, you may or may not need to bring specific art materials. Most of the time, all materials are included in your retreat fee.

    Don't forget your camera. Also, consider bringing a small battery-operated book light, earplugs, your phone charger, snacks, and an extension cord.

  • Certainly! The whole point of the retreat is to get away from the hassles of everyday life.

    Be sure to allow adequate time for your package to arrive.

    Please do not ship your materials more than two weeks before the event.

    To ship items home, you must repack your box so it can be shipped directly from the retreat. We will not provide any shipping materials, so please include them in the box you ship out. Bring your own UPS/FedEx shipping labels or pay and print them online before you leave (including USPS Priority Mail labels).

    Cell phone reception depends on your service provider but is excellent here in Glastonbury.

    Wireless internet is available on-site.

  • Yes! At Artists Rising, retreaters bring and share a unique perspective and energy, forming lifelong friendships and bonds. We work together in ways that male energy might interrupt (plus, we have limited guest rooms available).
